Muscle Relaxing Injections
Botulinum Toxin A is a treatment for the reduction of wrinkles in expression lines. It diminishes and/or eliminates the appearance of dynamic wrinkles by paralysing the underlying muscles and preventing them from contracting.
Due to the muscle being unable to contract, the wrinkle physically cannot form and will gradually recede until it is unnoticeable.
Botulinum Toxin A is not effective with static wrinkles and these are best treated with dermal fillers. The upper third of the face is the most common area treated but muscles in the jaw line, chin and neck can produce changes in facial contour. A "gummy smile" can also be reduced by this method.
The treatment takes two to three days to take effect and two weeks for the maximum result which lasts up to six months, in order for the treatment to be as effective as possible follow ups are advised.
Other treatments such as Pellevé are available. Pellevé generally has longer lasting affects however, Botulinum Toxin A offers the immediate results.
